Home => Research Newspaper Publishing Outsourcing Pegged at $3.75 billionOutsourcing of publishing services to India continues to grow, both horizontally and vertically. New niches and opportunities across hitherto untapped segments of publishing are opening up even as vendors develop vertical capabilities across the publishing value chain. In the bi-monthly edition of "Offshoring in the Publishing Vertical – An Update" we take a brief look at the emerging opportunity in newspaper publishing. Offshoring as we know, was pioneered by STM publishers and that segment still dominates India's offshoring revenues to the vertical. Our first report, "Offshoring in the Publishing Vertical" focused on STM, while the report in May 2007 also looked at legal publishing. The vendor landscape in Newspaper publishing outsourcing is evolving rapidly, as players eye the large market opportunity. Express KCS, an emerging entrant in Newspaper publishing outsourcing has been in the news recently, for bagging contracts from several US newspapers. Robert Berkeley, CEO, Express KCS believes that "Graphic production for newspapers is an emerging segment from the India point of view". According to Arun Jethmalani, CEO, ValueNotes, "The opportunity to provide services to the global newspaper and news publishing industry is still emerging and yet to be tapped in a big way. The ball has been set rolling by some of the larger players, it's only a matter of time before the smaller media companies take the cue and begin offshoring". Adds Aradhana Kolhatkar, analyst ValueNotes, "The employee skill sets in newspaper publishing are transferable to other media segments like magazine publishing and premedia services. However, the key challenge in providing offshored services to real-time media is the consistently quick turnaround. Thus, the onus of creating awareness and comfort with the idea of offshoring lies with the vendor".
