Fidelity Business Services provides research and information technology assistance to the global operations of its parent, Fidelity International. Established in 2001, the firm employs around 7,000 people across three offices. The number of people employed in the investment management services group isn’t known.

Several global publishers are offshoring their publishing services to India, making the country a publishing BPO services hub of the world, he said.
Lattice Bridge Infotech has developed a solution, Webtra Xtend, which uses SMS, voice and hybrid messaging to create a real-time information system that monitors the employee transit events between workplace and residence, company's Chief Strategy and Sales Officer S S Rajan said. "When a pick up vehicle leaves the office, Webtra server sends an automated message to each of the employee who will be picked up by that vehicle. The industry, of course, has its sceptics—those who think LPOs take young attorneys too far afield from rigorous legal work and training. “We’ve told our recruitment consultants we don’t want anyone that has worked at LPOs,” says Srinivas Katta, a partner with the Bangalore law firm Indus G&D. “We find them short on competence. They speak well and are very presentable to clients, but there’s no depth, is what we’ve found.”
The rating, by Gartner in its latest "Market Scope for Comprehensive Finance and Accounting Business Process Outsourcing 2007 Report 2007", was based on evaluation criteria like customer experience, geographic strategy, product/services, market understanding, vertical strategies, market responsiveness and track record.
The survey, based on a detailed study of the captive as well as third party call centers, says the growth in the domestic call center industry will accelerate to 65%, up from 42% recorded in the previous year. (This growth rate is about twice the growth rate recorded by the Rs. 37,800 crore BPO export sector in 2006-07.
The BPIAI, an affiliated association of industry body of the CII, in its pre-Budget session which would be presented before the Finance Minister for considerations, said a special BPO department or Ministry in the government should be set up and the government should consider the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector as a separate industry from the IT segment and device a proper mechanism to determine its export turnover.
The software and services exports are expected to grow by 29% to reach $40.8 billion while the domestic market is expected to touch $23.2 billion in FY08. The review also said the industry would also meet its target of $60 billion software exports, and overall software and services revenues of $73-75 billion by 2010. Nasscom added that industry will adopt diversification of services and location of clients to protect itself against a possible US recession.
The company's revenue grew 13.4 per cent at $115.6 million (around Rs 457.08 crore) for the third quarter from $101.9 million (around Rs 402.9 crore).
As per the outsourcing partnership agreement, Firstsource would manage Barclays' operations center in Colorado Springs and would provide customer care and collection support to its US cardholders, Firstsource Solutions said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.
“Morgan Stanley has no plans to sell (the BPO unit) and confirms that it remains fully committed to MSAS which is a successful and important component to its business globally,” the investment banking firm said in a statement here.
MSAS, based out of Goregaon, a Mumbai suburb, employs close to 2,000 and could be valued at a minimum of $500 million, according to some investment bankers.
Under the terms of the agreement, Firstsource will manage and operate and Barclays operations center in Colorado Springs, provide customer care and collection's support to Barclays US cardholders. The partnership is expected to provide Barclays with increased operational efficiency and flexibility, and help both Companies support their expanding operations in the US. The Firstsource's employees in Colorado Springs would continue to focus on providing services to Barclays US cardholders, a release stated.
For long, a job with a business process outsourcing (BPO) company has been looked upon as a stepping stone to another, longer-lasting career. Such has been the attrition in the industry.
Infosys BPO vice-president & Head of Global Sales and Marketing Ritesh Idnani told ET, “Though the current economic environment in the US is not the only factor, Infy BPO is seeing three trends. We are starting to see large multi-tower deals which would include some areas or all of HR, F&A, IT and procurement outsourcing. Second, clients are asking to bundle deals, combine both operations and technology. Thirdly, provide insight through our research and analysis offerings.”
The industry is also expected to create 3.25-2.75 lakh jobs in the same time. India’s current share of the RIM market stands at about $3.2-3.6 billion.
Specialist’ is the word that can attract youngsters who don’t want the BPO job just for the big pay packet anymore. So spread the message like `you can become an insurance specialist or travel & logistics specialist’ is what BPO experts suggest.
Citi has outsourcing operations in China, the Philippines, Latin America and Europe, of which CGSL was one of them. Sources said the group is now looking at taking a strategic decision on all these operations globally. “Citi wanted to have a relook at all the operations and has put the sale of the Indian operations on hold,” said a source.
Work for the two-year study which began in August last year is being carried out in four BPOs in Mumbai, Dr Gauravi Mishra, Consultant, Preventive Oncology division of TMH, said adding although the BPOs themselves are smoke-free but the staff come out of the office for smoking.
It started in the late ‘90s when Indian IT companies started opening new centres and acquiring companies from Japan to Mexico, South Africa to Australia. Every such move meant adding local employees to their rolls. It also meant training them about the company’s work culture and mindset. Teaching them the nuances of Indian culture and society was equally important.
BPOs in Bangalore, which rely heavily on Internet services, say that there has been a 'slowdown' but they 'have been able to tide over the crisis' by using 'backup or alternate lines.' They said they would have to rely on these lines through the satellite for at least another two weeks as it would take that long to repair the damage.
