Top 20 software exporters and domestic IT players in India in 2011: Dataquest Survey

Dataquest conducted a study on the performance of companies which are into IT exports. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the performance of the companies in the previous year and to rank them accordingly.

The research report by Dataquest stated that, after recession in 2008 the Indian IT service exporters have grown rapidly. If the growth rate was 6% in the year 2009-2010 then it is 21% in the year 2010-2011 which is considered to be a tremendous hype. It is Tata Consultancy Service (TCS) which has occupied the first position in the raking followed by Infosys and Cognizant.

After the release of the report experts suggested that TCS was expected to be in the top position because of the quality services and innovative strategies adopted by the company in the previous years. They also added that apart from the displacement of Wipro Technologies from 3rd position to 4th, everything was fine as far as software exporters are concerned. It was Cognizant Technology Solutions which has achieved the third position pushing down Wipro Technologies into the fourth.

While considering the domestic IT market, the sector also has delivered a potential growth of 23% which is even better than the IT exports. The domestic IT market is picking up speed in new business deals and new contracts. It is quite remarkable that the domestic IT market which mostly comprises of hardware sales has performed well and made good business in the financial year. The two categories in which the domestic market is specialized are computer sales and smartphone sales. It is calculated that out of the total 32 billion US dollar business generated by the IT domestic sector has contributions from computer and smartphone sales. The computer sales extends up to 6.4 billion US dollars where as the smartphones did a marvelous business which reached the total up to 1.93 billion US dollars.

HP India has been ranked in the top position by Dataquest in domestic IT business with a total of 26.9 % growth. HP is followed by HCL Infosystems and Ingram Micro India. Even the growth rate of HCL Infosystems was very low the company could maintain the second position as it occupies a huge market share and has good business potential.

As far as IT exports and domestic IT firms are concern, year 2011 is good. But it was quite unfortunate that the BPO exporters in the nation delivered low performance resulting in a fall from 13 % (2010) to 7% (2011).
